Plyo box
A sturdy box for jumps, step-ups and elevated exercises. Soft foam boxes are safer for beginners and quieter to land on.
A plyo box is a raised platform used for box jumps, step-ups, and elevated push-ups or dips, built from wood, metal, or dense foam. Wood and metal boxes are typically more rigid and often adjustable in a stackable 3-in-1 style, while foam boxes trade some rigidity for a softer landing.
In an apartment, landing noise from box jumps is one of the more disruptive sounds you can make, since it combines a hard impact with a drop from height, which travels easily through floors to units below.
When buying, weigh a wood or metal box's stability and higher weight capacity against a foam box's quieter, softer landing that is more forgiving for beginners still learning to stick a landing. Check the footprint and whether it stacks flat for storage. A common mistake is choosing a hard box for a small upstairs apartment purely for looks or price, then finding jump training generates noise complaints almost immediately. Starting with step-ups instead of full jumps is a quieter way to build confidence on any box type.
