Weightlifting belt
A wide belt worn around the torso during heavy lifts to help brace the core, not a device that lifts weight for you.
A weightlifting belt is a wide band worn around the torso, typically over the navel area, used to give your core something to brace against during heavy squats, deadlifts, or presses. It works by increasing intra-abdominal pressure when you brace against it, not by supporting or lifting the weight itself.
In a small home setup where you are often lifting without a spotter, learning to brace properly matters more than usual, since a belt is a training aid for that bracing skill rather than a substitute for technique or a safety net on its own.
When buying, compare stiff lever or buckle belts, which hold a fixed size precisely, against nylon velcro belts, which adjust more easily but flex more under heavy loads. Sizing should be based on where the belt will actually sit while lifting, not a clothing size. A common mistake is buying based on pants size or general torso measurement instead of measuring around the point where the belt will sit, or leaning on the belt in place of learning to brace without it.
